A little word about Antonio...
Hence the icon, Mick was a Trojan last night.

I don't know how it came across on the telly but I think it was obvious to everyone in the stadium that at about 15 minutes in he got clattered into and had his hip or lower back injured quite badly.

Personally I couldn't see how he wasn't hooked as he was limping badly and holding his side for the entire rest of the first half including after he scored his goal. Despite the obvious pain he was everywhere giving his all for the team and was my man of the match.

When he came out for the second half I could only think that he had an injection of painkillers to get him through to the end as he limped less but never entirely shook the knock.

Anyway, I just thought his attitude deserved a special mention particularly at a time when certain players' attitudes and body language points to them thinking that they are bigger than the club.

Gazza thats good maybe that comes with more confidence to use your weaker foot. I wasn't criticising him most strikers are not 2 footed and can head the ball as well

“Problem is I think he is a bit thick. In his head he’s one of the best players in the league, as can be seen by his opinion on his FIFA stats, which won’t always endear him to people.”

Since the video with him complaining about his FIFA stats is obviously a joke, I’m not sure if he’s the thick one.

It's all about form. He hasn't had a clear run without injury. This was the first game for a long time when he has had a good runout clear of injury

I am going to compliment Antonio on the fact that he has dramatically improved his play, by using his left foot. Admittedly he is way better with his right foot, but I have seen him use his left to control the ball and wrong-foot defenders. In fact I would go as far as to say that his increased use of the Left foot - is primarily the reason that he appears to have improved his game.
Much Kudos to him. Keep it up Michail.
Cheers

He is like a cross between Wanchope and Andy Cole with a sprinkling of Kanoute.

Re: A little word about Antonio...
He is great as long as he doesn’t think about what he is about to do next. Good instincts, terrible decisions. A sort of stockier Paulo Wanchope, who can play a few more positions

Stain,

I get the feeling Pellegrini quite likes Fredericks so if we can persuade Zabaleta to stay another year cover at right back may not be a priority. I must admit I haven't been convinced by Fredericks myself but he was good the other night so may be with a season in the league under his belt and if he can stay away from injuries and gets another year to learn off Zabaleta maybe he could come good. Put it this way, there's more chance than seeing Byram back there.

I think he played well yesterday. Held the ball up better than Carroll has for years, and when he gets motoring he’s very difficult to stop

Problem is I think he is a bit thick. In his head he’s one of the best players in the league, as can be seen by his opinion on his FIFA stats, which won’t always endear him to people.

Re: A little word about Antonio...
I don't write him off and I don't advocate selling him. I also agree that we need different types of players. But my guess is that MP, given his wish list, would have proper cover at right back and up front so MA could stick to his best right wing position. But I still also guess that given that realistic wish list, MA would not be his ideal right winger but would be a great option from the bench.

Re: A little word about Antonio...
The guy plays in a multitude of positions and runs all over the pitch. Sometime this means he may look poor in a position due to having to track back or edge forward. Because of this I think he doesn't come across as a quality player.
In truth he is a worker and has a lot of ability. When he is in the right place at the right time he is unstoppable.

Really gets in to a game on his day and one of those players that may not look the business every game but when he is there, he is pure quality.

Re: A little word about Antonio...
Divides opinion between those who see what he does and those who made up their mind about him and stick to that view, no matter what.

I've seen a decent player in form, then a decent player out of form, and now a decent player returning to form.

He certainly isn't just pace and power. For example, he PLACED his last goal right where the keeper not only couldn't reach it, but knew he couldn't.

After being Hammer of year he went through some shit last season from many on here and now he has pulled through it and getting back to his back to his best. He cant do anything with his left foot, but he can head the ball

And played at right back for a number of those games.

Could have scored more if played more up the middle.

He's NEVER the best.
He's never the worst.
He is sometimes asked to play ridiculous roles. And he tries.

In short, he is classic West Ham Way..

Few more goals and the bloke is Cult Hero status.

Re: A little word about Antonio...
Was definitely struggling with an injury/his back, before the free kick for his goal you could see him out near the flank stretching his back....when he then made his run and scored i almost thought it was a ploy to throw off their defence!! Start of the 2nd half it took him about 5 minutes to get going, as if he had really stiffened up,

Credit to him last night he definitely played his part and gave it all.
